The Golfologist LLC was established in 1998, by Dr. Oscar Coetzee. His personal
passion for golf led him to the creation and sub division of his company.
As a junior golfer in his native South-Africa
Dr. Coetzee competed against the likes of Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Manny Zerman, Deane Pappas and Brenden Pappas - all established
PGA Tour Professionals. He won the prestigious Gary Player Junior Open in 1985 and TeGroen Junior Cup (1984, 1985) -
was ranked nationally by making his provincial junior golf team. As an amateur in College he won the Curtis Cup Match-Play
Championship (1988) and Woolavington Championship (1987, 1988). He was the number one ranked player at the University
of Pretoria and was undefeated in his collegiate matches in 1988. Moving to the USA in 1991 to continue his
education he played rarely. In 1992 he picked up the clubs again and went on to win a NJ PGA Cadillac Series event
against Pros as an amateur. He also picked up the NJ Summer Tour Championship (1992, 1994). Won the Delaware Tour
Championship in 1993. Was a winning team member of the 1996 (NJPGO) two man championship. Between 1992 - 1997 he won
more than 30 one-day tournaments on the NJ Summer Tour. He quit playing competitively in 1997 to focus on his education and
business growth. With his playing background and a degree in Psychology he began counseling and coaching
golfers in the "mental-mechanical area". His understanding of the neuromuscular, psychological and competitive sides
of golf made him a house hold name with PGA Professionals in the North-East. He soon began focusing on the Focal Dystonias
(Yips) with golfers. This psycho-neuromuscular disorder - affecting all sports intrigued his interest as he had a bout
with the "Driver Yips" himself. The next couple of years he helped various golfers through these phases.
The Golfologist, LLC today hosts a retail store, online sales, golf facility management, golf schools, instruction,
mental coaching, corporate seminars and one of the
largest junior golf programs(Okkie Jr. Golf Camps) on the East Coast.
